A Quick Guide To Herb Gardening

Herbal medicine is becoming more popular every day and for good reason. Herbs have practical value, serve a purpose and with the herb garden, you can actually get to use plants. When most people think of the herb garden, you automatically think of cooking, but herbs are grown for their pleasant aroma and beauty. An important part of herb gardening is drying the herbs for use during the winter months, especially if you're in the kitchen with them. First, the tops of leafy trees must be cut, washed and hung, so that water evaporates. Then, tie stems and hang them in a paper bag to dry properly. After two or three weeks, may be removed. Crumble the dried leaves in the oven and store in a glass jar. One of the most common plants in the habit of gardening, herbs, and basil. "Dark Opal" and regular green basil are beautiful additions to any garden and are often used as decoration. Dark Opal has light pink flowers and dark red leaves. Basil is used not only for its appearance, is used to add flavor to tomato juice and pulp. Chives are very small and they seem to find a blade of grass. Are much stronger than it looks, however, and will grow well through a drought period. Its strength and toughness makes Chives a perfect plant for herb garden, especially if the gardener does not want plants that require a lot of problems. Chives are good if used in salads, egg dishes and many different sauces. Mint is also very easy to grow and is good practice to use in mint jelly, mint juleps, lemonade and any other kind of fruity drink. Peppermint is also good for the herb garden, for its unique scent of mint. Two plants that appear in almost every yard of grass, are thyme and sage. Both of these herb gardening favorites are used to flavor soups, chicken, turkey, pork and sausages. Sage is also grown sometimes for its beautiful blue flowers with spikes. Lavender is probably the best smelling herb in all the cultivation of herbs and is often used in candles, as a smell of perfume and improve the smell in linen chests. The light purple flowers smell absolutely delicious. Other types of herbs often grown in the garden of herbs are borage (used in salads), chervil (used in egg dishes), sweet marjoram (flavor lamb, fish, salads and soup), sesame ( flavored crackers, cookies and bread) and dill (flavors of the meat and used in pickles). Herbal medicine allows gardeners to use herbs from her garden, cooking, appearance and smell. Medicinal herbs are more fresh produce herbs with more flavor of the herbs bought at the supermarket and are much less expensive.
